Yes, I survived!!! The pain was very minor. I have kind of learned that when it starts to hurt, I just need to focus on not bending my knee as much. My form is off and I have to run slower to do it, BUT it keeps the pain almost completely away. If I can just do this for a bit until I get it under control, I should be okay. I do worry that I might hurt something else, but I think I am okay, the form is that bad. THANKS Smooth for sticking with me for the first 5, sorry I could not keep up with you on the downhills! OUCH! But, man, you fly down hills. When I am done hurting you need to teach me how to do that!

Anyway, blah, blah, blah! We had a great turnout for our run today I thought! I think we had 15 people---2 from the BBK's (one on the blog--Erico), one from our ward (and the blog--JJ, but he is just quiet around here), 2 women from my gym, Kellie and Tyler brought a couple (blog or not, I am not sure) and then Michelle, Smooth, Tarzan and Jon (and Scott and I, of course). Scott had a GREAT time doing his best to follow Michelle's workout and keep up with her and Tyler. They ran 21 miles, others did 13-15, and a few of us (ME) just did the 10. But it was fun to once again run with people and chat. The chatting after is hard because it is cold, but we survived!

Thanks to everyone who came!!! I hope you had fun and will come again! I promise we will start earlier next time, that was a hard later start (I feel like 1/2 the day is gone) but it worked for a holiday weekend where no one seemed to want to get up too early! Back to early days....

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. ~Albert Schweitzer

THANKS TO ALL OF MY FRIENDS, old and new!

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!

Do whatever works ... but DON'T FORGET TO ICE!!

(Have you iced yet?)

LLL

From Kelli on Nov 29, 2008 at 16:00:41

I will ice!!!! But I am so cold right now!

How about you, crazy girl???

From Teena on Nov 29, 2008 at 16:03:34

I ALWAYS ICE!! :)

(I was thinking about all of you when I was running. I can't wait until I can join up with everybody again.)

Man, Scott is so stinkin' fast! What does he need to BQ? 3:15? He is SO DOING IT!!

From Kelli on Nov 29, 2008 at 16:05:52

He is fast, if he could run with Michelle and Tyler every weekend he would be there! I think maybe he needs Walter and Peggy to really push him this next year!

I thought of you, too! I was running 10 minute miles or slower, so I was thinking you should have come with us and just run slow because I KNEW you would do more than 2 today!!!

From TylerS on Nov 29, 2008 at 16:34:16

Thanks Kelli for the great morning! Your efforts are always appreciated by Kellie and I. I told Scott that I will have to start watching over my shoulder come race day! He has the guts and potential to run a sub 3 hr marathon for SURE! oh and a awesome wife to help him :) Thank you again and tell Scott thanks too.

From jona on Nov 29, 2008 at 16:38:38

That was great Kelli. Thank you for organizing it.

Tell Scott he is a great runner. Was good to see him stay with the speedsters.

From Teena on Nov 29, 2008 at 16:39:35

Kelli,

You just tell me when you are available.

From Kelli on Nov 29, 2008 at 16:45:09

I am always available! Whenever. I can even get a babysitter in the afternoon for Emma and do some great afternoon running (my favorite)!

When are you thinking? Early am meet somewhere??

From Kelli on Nov 29, 2008 at 16:49:56

You are welcome Jon and Tyler. Any excuse to buy good food...

From Teena on Nov 29, 2008 at 16:51:52

I'm good for early a.m. or afternoon. My twins are in school from 12:00 - 3:00 and so I am free as a jaybird during those times!

Seriously, you tell me the date and the time and we will do it!! I am SO excited!!

From kellies on Nov 29, 2008 at 17:37:27

Great job today, I am so darn proud of you. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and for all of the goodies. I was so hungry at the end I about ate a dozen of those muffins all by myself, but then I got in the car to come home and they all settled and have kept me full almost all day now. You are awesome, I am so glad that I have met you and gotten to know you. Thanks again Kelli, have a great rest of the weekend!!!!

From Teena on Nov 29, 2008 at 17:38:50

Kelli,

Perhaps we should shoot for Thursday or Friday morning or afternoon. We will talk about it when it gets closer!! Very cool!!

Need to hurry and finish my tree before heading to the in-laws again!!

Laters!

(Did you ice your knee?)

From Kelli on Nov 29, 2008 at 17:41:20

Love you, too, Kellie! Glad you guys could come and help me eat the muffins!

Teena---Friday is the DR appt at 10. I forgot about that! But I could go after. Thursday is good, Wednesday is good, whatever!

From Cheryl on Nov 29, 2008 at 17:59:13

Sounds like it was a fun run, Kelli. I wish I could have come but my husband had a remodeling project he wanted to get going on. Maybe next time. Running 10 minute miles sounds good to me. And I'm glad Eric made it and whoever else came from BBK's.

From Kelli on Nov 29, 2008 at 18:07:14

Next time Cheryl!! Alan was the other one.

Hope the remodeling goes well.

From erico on Nov 29, 2008 at 18:07:24

Kelli, thanks again to both you and Scott. And by the way, my pumpkin muffin was absolutely awesome! What a great morning! Friends, running and a muffin! I think the run will catch on once everyone hears how much fun it is.

From kungfublonde on Nov 29, 2008 at 18:45:59

I'm glad you had such a great time. Sounds wonderful. And 10.5 is great! Every time you wish you could run more, come check out my big fat 0 miles for the next 5 weeks :)

Be nice to yourself. You know what helps with knee recovery? Cookies. :)

From Kelli on Nov 29, 2008 at 18:48:56

Can I tell Teena that cookies work better than ice?? I will certainly have fun testing that theory out!

From kungfublonde on Nov 29, 2008 at 19:24:36

Eat cookies while you ice. Cookies make everything better.

From Kelli on Nov 29, 2008 at 20:16:50

I agree---cookies and ICE cream!!

From Camille on Nov 29, 2008 at 21:46:55

good job on your run today... and way to figure out your body's cues! Now about cookies... if I had to admitt to how many cookies I've had today, you all would stop being my friends out of embarrasment

From erico on Nov 29, 2008 at 21:52:00

Kelli,

Speaking of cookies, one of our old running buddies opened up a gourmet cookie store in South Jordan that you have to try out. It is called Over the Top Cookies. Located across from Cafe Rio on 104th and Redwood or they have a website.

From tarzan on Nov 29, 2008 at 23:09:46

Kelli - thanks for organizing the run today. Sorry I was late for the start.

Don't worry about me running alone - I am so slow and am used to it (unless Leslie is along - we are about the same pace).

From leslie on Nov 29, 2008 at 23:20:40

Sorry I missed run! I would have loved to kept Maurine company!

From Smooth on Nov 30, 2008 at 01:18:19

Kelli -- This is late, sorry I've been gone all day. THANK YOU so much for organizing today's run. I LOVE YOU, I LOVE YOU. I wish I could stay longer to visit. But hubby and sons were waiting and I was getting cold. THANK YOU for the muffin. The pumpkin one was yummy . YOU ARE the NICEST runner there is. Please tell Scott THANK YOU too. He was there to greet each of us at the turn-around. What a great guy. I sure hope the Dr. has good answer for your knee pain. Even with pain you still run with very nice form and much better form than me. I might just join you and Teena on your runs. I'm going to bed now. Talk soon. LOVE YOU.

From montelepsy on Nov 30, 2008 at 07:23:20

Yikes, over 10 on a bum knee. Your pain threshold must be inhuman!

From Kelli on Nov 30, 2008 at 09:59:07

The pain was really not too bad during the run yesterday, really! I am quite wimpy. But it did hurt all afternoon from sitting around---moving is better than sitting!!

We missed you Leslie! Hope you had a great trip!!

Smooth, you are so very welcome! I am glad my funky running did not mess with my form too much! I was glad you took off down the hills, it was cool to watch. I had to FIGHT not chasing after you, but my goal was a 10 minute mile avg so I tried to stick with that!

From jona on Nov 30, 2008 at 15:33:48

Hey, I got my TuTu yesterday. Are you guys running the Nutcracker 5k? I need more people there.

From Kelli on Nov 30, 2008 at 15:39:59

Did you really???

I did not sign up to do anything anytime soon due to the knee issues, but Scott in a tutu would be quite the sight!

From jona on Nov 30, 2008 at 15:42:05

I have a picture, but I am not posting it if I don't get some other runners in the race. It will be fun! You should sign up!

From jona on Nov 30, 2008 at 15:42:31

Oh, here is the sign up

From Kelli on Nov 30, 2008 at 16:09:44

Okey dokey, JON!!! Scott and Ashly are going to run the 5k (we will see about the tutus), and my 8 and 10 year old are going to do the kids race. We will be there. I am looking forward to observing and taking pictures!!!

From jona on Dec 01, 2008 at 02:48:12

Cool. My TuTu was very easy to make. I'm sure you could make one in 10 min. And there is no way it will chafe.

Get a ribbon that will be the length to go around the waist, then get the poofy fabric that you want and tie it around the waist band. I'll send you a picture of mine. Here is a link that does it EASY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7aSPMEn7S0

Yeah, now we need some more. Tyler S? I think Kellie could make him a camo one. Teena, Brita, Smooth, Tarzan, Leslie......Come on, who is in?

From tarzan on Dec 01, 2008 at 09:24:52

Sorry - Tarzan can't run on Antelope Island and in Orem at the very same time.

From Teena on Dec 01, 2008 at 16:58:26

Tutus? Running? What are you all talking about?

From jona on Dec 01, 2008 at 17:03:41

The Nutcracker 5k in Orem this Sat. is "TuTu" optional, but not many run without. I have one my sister made for me. Will be fun!

http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1645128&assetId=C8A6F85D-A1E7-42E3-B98B-6590BDF12A95

When are you going to start running again Teena?

From Teena on Dec 01, 2008 at 17:11:50

Hey Jon!!

I'm running a bit now. But I know that a race would not be good for me because I would likely push the speed! Although, maybe my daughter would like to run it and then I could just run with her. Hmmm ... that might work.

From jona on Dec 01, 2008 at 17:15:00

Do come! Bring the family. It will be fun. Not all races need to be fast. If I'm there by myself I will try harder, but if there are some others that don't want to go hard then I will be happy with a fun run! (BUT, Scott will be there and I don't know if he will run with their kids or out on his own. I may see if I can get my daughter to run.

Will be fun!

From Teena on Dec 01, 2008 at 17:18:31

I will definintely look into it! The kids have their first basketball games this Saturday ... yep, all stinkin' five of them ... so Saturdays are going to get a little chaotic!! STINK!! (Shouldn't Saturdays be all about me??? hee hee)

From jona on Dec 01, 2008 at 17:23:56

I feel your pain. I'm not as bad off, I only have one right now doing basketball/sports. But I'm the coach, so during the week I don't even get to just drop him off for practice, I GET to go! This year is better than last though. There were some real "SWEET" boys last year.

From Teena on Dec 01, 2008 at 17:26:28

FUNNY STUFF!! What is the age group you coach? Hey ... where's Kelli?

From jona on Dec 01, 2008 at 17:45:30

I coach 5th - 6th graders.

"Where is Kelli", It isn't my day to watch her. I think Marion had today. I did hear from her earlier, but that was hours ago. And we all know how fast she is, she could be out of the country now.

:-)

From Teena on Dec 01, 2008 at 17:48:15

True that!!

From Kelli on Dec 01, 2008 at 18:23:29

I am right here!!! I was on the computer for about 30 minutes this morning, but the blog was not working. It was driving me nuts. Anyway, we went to see BOLT and then I did a little more Christmas shopping.

Now ya know where I have been.

From jona on Dec 01, 2008 at 18:30:06

Oh good, we thought we lost you Kelli!

That was frustrating this morning. I was going to put my picture of me in the TuTu on my blog but since it wasn't working, it didn't get done. Oh well. :-)

From Kelli on Dec 01, 2008 at 18:42:14

So, do it now!!! I really do not think I can convince Scott to wear one. I am trying though.
